The Prairie Enthusiasts (TPE) and Sauk Prairie River PAL (Project Association, Ltd.), two area non-profit organizations, are co-sponsoring a hike through the beautiful remnant prairie, Schluckebier Prairie, this Sunday, August 28th, from 2pm to 4pm. Trip leaders will be Scott Weber and Muffy Barrett, two local prairie experts and owners of Bluestem Farms, a native plant nursery. This is the fourth in a series of “phenology tours” organized by TPE this summer to observe the ever-changing wildlflower show at this small but rich prairie site.
You will be walking through tall vegetation on this tour, so wear appropriate clothing. The terrain is moderately rolling, and this is not a strenuous hike.
Directions: From the intersection of Highway 12 and Co. Hwy. PF (north of Sauk City), turn west onto PF and travel 1.5 miles. There will be a fencerow of pines on the left (south) side of the road, behind which is a dirt lane. Park along (well off) the highway.
