Alliance Announces “We Are Sauk Prairie” Series for Fall & Winter
We are pleased to announce a new fall-winter series of programs and tours entitled, “We Are Sauk Prairie.” We have planned a monthly presentation and several tours starting in September. The 6-month program series is supported by Alliant Energy Foundation.
Our first program is scheduled for Thursday, September 22 and features DNR ornithologist Mike Mossman, lifelong resident of Sauk County and statewide expert in birds. His presentation is entitled: “Birds of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant: Lessons in History and Stewardship.” The program will be held in Room B24 (basement) at the West Square Building, 505 Broadway, Downtown Baraboo, starting at 6:45pm. Refresments will be available starting at 6:30.
This month’s Volunteer Stewardship Day at Badger, co-hosted by REI and the Alliance, will be held on Saturday, September 24. That day corresponds to National Public Lands Day. REI will provide snacks, t-shirts and water for the day. REI is also hosting a pizza party afterward. To participate in the work day and pizza party, please RSVP to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Saturday, October 8th, we are hosting another volunteer work day at Badger from 9:00am to 12:00pm, and then a Badger Tour that begins at 1:00pm. Our second monthly program will begin at 6:45pm on Thursday, October 20 in the Ruth Culver Community Library in Prairie du Sac and is a presentation by ecologist Dr. Alison Duff about the origins and ecology of the original Sauk Prairie, a 14,000-acre native grassland. At 1:00pm on Saturday, October 22, geologist Phil Fauble will lead a geology tour at Badger, exploring both the recent (glacial) and ancient geology that can be observed on the Badger lands.
